New Media -mobile devices
In 1996 Motorola launched one of the first mobile phones with display screens and flip top. During the same year, Nokia presented the first smartphone called 9000, it was the first all in one phone, it had the normal characteristics of a phone (calls, texts), and several applications for a daily use like: email, word processor, diary, etc. It also had a fully QWERTY keyboard.
The same company, launched the first ever mobile phone with WAP browser, making the other companies to improve their phones and keep introducing new things to the market.
Once again, Nokia develop one of the first 3G phones in 2003,with size of 87 x 78 x 19 mm and a weight of 123g it was and still is, the smallest and lightest mobile phone. It had a screen size of 31 x 39 mm and 128 x 160 pixels with 65.536 colours.
In 2006, Benefon introduced the first mobile phone with GPS built in, it was sold mostly in Europe.
The following year, Apple launched their first phone, the Iphone, also the first of the Iphone series. It was released in June 2007, with a lot of innovations like auto rotate sensor, multi touch sensor, fully touch screen, that replaced the traditional keyboards, including old creations but improved, 2MP camera, 3.5 inches screen with 320 x 480 pixels.
On September 2013, Apple released their latest phone in the Uk, the Iphone 5s. With a retina display of 4 inches diagonal widescreen, multi touch display fingerprint resistant. The principal camera has 8MP and it can record videos in 1080p HD. Using IOS7, is the most intelligent phone available nowadays.
Currently exist several operational systems for phones like Blackberry os, Apple os, Android os, Windows os, Nokia os, Bada os, Symbian os, among others.
Older phones used to use 1G analog network, it had only a speed of 2.4 kbps, it capable of making and receiving phone calls only. 2G is a digital network of a speed of 64 kbps, this network is still used by some phones, it was capable of sending and receiving SMS, multimedia texts, also received and make phone calls, and allows connection to the internet. Those two networks were part of the narrowband era. 3G is the most used network nowadays, has a 2 Mbps, allowing you to do everything of 2G but faster, plus the use of applications like games of other kind of application. Not long from now we will be using the broadband network called 4G, is going to have 1 Gbps, the fastest ever network speed.
When the mobile phones started to appear where very expensive, currently almost everybody have a mobile phone.
The innovation of mobile phones had a huge impact on the society, everybody would like to have the last mobile phone with all the new thing that they can do. Any improvement on a mobile phone series is big, also the apps available, including social networks; where people post comments, pictures, etc; improvements to current phone option, like camera apps, which use the same mobile camera but in their own app to edit, stylize or put filters to make them look better.
